About This Wine
Alšar Grand Reserve VKP - vintage 2022
Iconic Dry Red Wine | Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Cabernet Franc | Kozuf Foothills Terroir
Alšar Grand Reserve VKP - vintage 2022 is a monumental, ultra-premium, and masterfully cellared achievement of our winemaking philosophy, crafted to stand as the absolute pinnacle of structure, patience, and complexity. This flagship dry red blend is deeply tied to its unique terroir, produced from low-yielding grapes grown in the pristine, sun-drenched foothills of the majestic Kozuf Mountain. Here, the intense Mediterranean warmth meets refreshing, cooling mountain descents, developing an extraordinary aromatic complexity and optimal phenolic maturity. A classic Bordeaux-inspired masterpiece, it unites the power and longevity of Cabernet Sauvignon 85%, the plush, velvety warmth of Merlot 10% and the perfumed, aristocratic lift of Cabernet Franc 5%. Enduring an uncompromising, slow aging process, the wine is patiently matured for 24 months in selected oak barrels and subsequently cellared for an additional 12 months in the bottle before release to ensure seamless architectural harmony.
In the glass, it commands immediate reverence with its dense, opaque, ink-like deep ruby-black color. The bouquet is remarkably deep, aristocratic, and multi-layered, slowly unfolding concentrated aromas of blackcurrant cassis, ripe wild blackberries, and baked plums, beautifully integrated with complex undertones of cedarwood, sweet tobacco leaf, graphite, crushed mint, and expensive vanilla-bean spice from its extensive oak maturation. On the palate, this 2022 vintage is full-bodied, massive, yet exceptionally sophisticated. It wraps the mouth in a majestic coat of dense, muscular, but perfectly melted and silky tannins, driven by a crisp, noble acidity that provides incredible freshness and longevity. The finish is exceptionally long, intellectual, and warming, leaving a permanent trail of dark fruit, espresso, and refined wood spice. Shaped by the dedicated hand of chief winemaker Lazar Ristov, Alsar is a timeless, legendary red of world-class stature.
Serving Suggestion: Best served at a temperature of 16–18°C. Decanting for at least 60–90 minutes before serving is highly recommended to allow its grand structure to fully breathe and open.
Food Pairing: A magnificent match for the finest culinary creations. It pairs phenomenally with premium cuts of marbled beef (prime ribeye, dry-aged Tomahawk steak), roasted rack of venison, slow-braised wild boar stew, lamb shanks with rosemary reduction, and highly intense, mature hard cheeses.
